nebraskans for change

I’ve had my head buried down in grad school and Up in the clouds

but I have managed to keep up with lots of Palin-inspired craziness, get motivated to campaign in Nevada and try to stay up to speed with various other races around the country. In that vein, here’s a quick, inspired ad from Scott Kleeb running in Nebraska:

UPDATE: It seems that the Obama campaign got all the volunteers they needed to drive to Nevada. In about 24 hours. That bodes well… let’s hope.

eight week recovery update

at eight weeks, originally uploaded by katerw.

just finished my eighth week.

had to go get a couple x-rays due to an unrelated shoulder injury. good news, no major damage… bad news, no quick fix to my limited range of motion, and decidedly no goalkeeping at this saturday’s soccer game. i’ll just be a struggling defender, yikes.

anyhow, super excited about the healing process and looking forward to being able to do a downward dog one of these days.

My photo from the Alameda Flea Market just got picked up on Rob Walker’s Murketing blog. There was something so deliciously fun about this little commentary on thrifting “offline.”

If you haven’t already, check out Walker’s Consumed in the Sunday Times and his new book, Buying In. Incidently, this week’s column highlights the froyo wars.

getting my grad school bearings…

(whoops… this was supposed to post the other day, but looks like it never did… so here’s the time rewind)

It is my big first week of grad school… Orientation is tomorrow afternoon and classes start Thursday. And just like the undergrad I once was, I’m up past midnight working on a project that is due tmw. Oh academia, I love you.

I’ll post my first project tmw once the glue dries, but in the meantime, while I wait for Photoshop to spin and spin… a few grad school bits…

Exhibit A: Recent Student-Related Purchases:

items: textbooks
justification: literally par for the course, spend a couple hundred on hopefully interesting reading material. and if the summer reading list was any sort of barometer, i’m looking forward to reading the pile of books i now own.

item: new backpack
justification: commuting by bicycle necessitated some way of carrying all those textbooks (see above)

item: iphone
justification: my rationalization was twofold. first, i wanted to be present to my employer and project team while i’m at school. second, i told myself that i could read for school and participate in our online forums while commuting. take that efficiency.

Exhibit B: Our Pretty Classroom

on the eve of our beginning, our fearless leader has posted a picture of our beautiful, newly remodeled classroom. leave it to the art school to have a more corporate board room than the big corporation i work for.

UPDATE: While beautiful, said classroom is quite HOT due to our uncharacteristically warm september. Not nearly as bad as sitting through TFA sessions in the Bronx summer heat, but definitely warmer than anyone likes.

- journal for taking notes and deep thoughts
- quick primer on design
- official “make your own” dmba polo

off i go to class number two. more updates when it all settles in.

“And sometimes there’s a third, even deeper level, and that one is the same as the top surface one. Like with pie.”

Happy Monday… Go watch Dr. Horrible.
