my summer vacation day 3: exploring brooklyn and astoria

Day 3, yesterday, Friday was super mellow. Again, it started with a run around the Prospect Park loop, this time with Leah keeping me at a face clip. Next up a ritual trip to the Park Slope Food Co-op which made me all sorts of envious and reminded me to get involved in the new Cog developing in the East Bay.

Later in the day Leah and I went for a long afternoon walk over to Smith St. to check out what has developed over there. We found an interesting mix of stores and dining/drinking spots, but I was most interested in the series of murals by young kids along one wall. Pretty cool to see street art by 5 year olds.

Then for dinner I visited my brother and his boyfriend up in Astoria. We ate some yummy grub at his favorite, Fatty’s and then wandered over to the infamous Beer Garden. I don’t think I’ll revisit the garden, but I appreciated that Brendan got into it… when it Rome… buy a pitcher.

Post-beer garden we retired to the apartment to catch up on the DVR and obsess over Tony clips. Cheers.
