the road to denver: superdelegates.

Everyone seems to be all up in arms about the Democratic Party’s superdelegates. With such a tight race almost every voter seems to be tracking the delegate count as closely as office pools follow March Madness. Of course the nomination is far more important than the NCAA, and this madness looks like it might run all the way to August.

While many people are questioning the rationale for superdelegates and fearing they will topple the will of the people, a few are rising to the defense. My brother just emailed me this HuffPo piece “My Father the Superdelegate and Why There’s Nothing to Fear” where Donnie Fowler attempts to assuage the concern, countering Ari Emmanuel’s “My Brother the Superdelegate and “Why I Don’t Trust Him to Pick the Next President.” They are both interesting reads, presenting first hand the current DNC fault line. Although, I think they aren’t completely oppositional in their ideas.

By complete coincidence, I spent some time with Donnie last night… and while we barely discussed the race I did pick his brain for a few moments about my run for delegate here in San Francisco. I’m still researching and asking around to get a sense for how many people you need to caucus on April 13th in order to become a delegate.
