maureen dowd
i was watching studio 60 the other night and it seemed pretty clear to me that christine lahti’s “martha o’dell” columnist character was a nod to maureen dowd. but then it occured to me that very little about maureen dowd. i know her name, i’ve read some columns here and there. i saw she had a cover story in rolling stone recently. but i don’t know too much about her…
again, wikipedia to the rescue. fun facts i learned tonight about ms. dowd:
- she’s a a native washingtonian (like my mom)
- she graduated from the catholic university of america (i used to study there)
- she’s quite a conversation starter: slate wonders “is maureen dowd necessary“* while salon argues “yes, maureen dowd is necessary”
and while i didn’t learn this on wikipedia, it turns out maureen dowd and aaron sorkin used to date. so the resemblance is not such a coincidence.
i’d beware of dating the super-scribe since he’s written two of his exes into studio 60. (harriet hayes=kristen chenoweth)
*i think it’s worth noting that the anti-dowd article for slate was written by the super-controversial katie roiphe who every feminist/womens/gender studies student has to learn about
