went to see RENT at the movie theater tonight. that’s three viewings of the show in one month. twice this week. (though one trip was to the live stage show on broadway.)

seeing the show both ways made me appreciate what each have to offer. i appreciate the starkness of the set, the raw fire on stage. but i also enjoy seeing the emotion on the actor’s faces in the film, as well as the added and clarified story line. either way… RENT still holds up. even ten years later.

it frustrates me that so many critics claimed RENT is outdated at the box office. A. it’s a period peice set in 1989, it should be a little dated. and B. the mesage is still absolutely relevant. people are still dying of AIDS. cities are still gentrifying. and we should all live today like its our last.

go see RENT… however you can.
And check out my behind the scenes photos of the soundstage where they shot the interior/apartment sequences.

The movie was terrible! It could have been so much better and you know it KRW… :) It was hard for me to be critical at first, but I really thought the movie lacked the heart of the original stage play.
